John O’Brien joined TechMarketView in October 2010 as Research Director for TMV’s BusinessProcessViews research stream. He is a respected industry analyst with ten years’ experience, and is known for his commentary on the UK IT services market and for his in depth knowledge of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

Before joining TechMarketView, John was the lead analyst for Ovum’s UK IT Services research with overall responsibility for Ovum’s UK IT services and BPO vendor analyses, market forecasts and UK-focused ITS research. Before this he worked for several years alongside Georgina O’Toole and Tola Sargeant on the highly respected PublicSector@Ovum service.

John works closely with both vendor and enterprise clients providing advice and opinion on the UK IT services market across both public and commercial sectors. His work has involved some high profile projects for major IT and BPO vendors such as Capgemini, Oracle and Capita. John has written a number of influential reports, including a series on shared services in the public sector, and several reports on BPO in areas such as central and local government.

John began his career as a freelance reporter for the Economist Intelligence Unit. He joined IT industry publisher ComputerWire in 2000 as an IT analyst, where he took on responsibilities for research into the global IT services market including offshore and BPO services. He helped launch a weekly news analysis service on the global IT services market and edited a monthly publication on the global BPO market.

John has a BA (Hons) in English and French Literature from the University of Reading, and post-graduate qualifications in journalism.
