At TechMarketView we’re proud of the fact that we spend as much time talking to small UK software and IT services firms as we do to the giants of the industry. We call these SMEs Little British Battlers and the LBB logo has since become a beacon for innovative SMEs that are punching above their weight in the UK and overseas markets.
In 2012 we ran our inaugural Little British Battler Day, inviting applications from small, privately held UK-headquartered tech firms who were looking for some candid, expert feedback on their company and propositions and, of course, some ‘airtime’ in TechMarketView’s research – for free!
The SMEs chosen to participate in our LBB days got a chance to present their company to the TechMarketView analyst team, discuss their strategy and receive constructive feedback. Each LBB also got a write-up in UKHotViews and were featured in a research report available to eligible TechMarketView subscription clients (see below).
Since launch we have run nine Little British Battler events with over 100 UK tech SMEs participating. We paused the programme in 2017 ahead of the launch of our Great British Scaleup programme, and we are planning to launch a successor to Little British Battlers in late 2019/early 2020.
In 2017 we celebrated the fact that more than 100 innovative UK tech SMEs had taken part in our ‘Little British Battler’ (or LBB) Programme. The programme has run for five years and in that time we’ve met some truly inspiring companies that really are punching above their weight in the software and IT services space.
To celebrate this milestone, we held a drinks reception at the OXO Tower in London, in association with our sponsors Oracle NetSuite. Over 150 leaders from the UK tech sector came along, including our LBBs, clients and other friends of TechMarketView. Our special guest speaker was the Right Honourable Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. As expected, it turned out to be a fantastic evening of networking over drinks and canapes.
Picture shows (L to R): Tola Sargeant (TechMarketView Managing Director); David Turner (Senior Director, EMEA Marketing, Oracle – NetSuite); Matt Hancock (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care); Anthony Miller) (TechMarketView Managing Partner); Richard Holway (TechMarketView Chairman).

The LBB100 report celebrates the fact that more than 100 innovative UK tech SMEs have now taken part in the TechMarketView Little British Battler (LBB) Programme. We asked all of our LBBs to contribute to an anonymous questionnaire to answer a series of questions about what it takes to make it (or break it) as a UK Tech SME.
We asked all of our LBBs to contribute to an anonymous questionnaire to answer a series of questions about what it takes to make it (or break it) as a UK Tech SME. This report answers some of the burning questions about the LBBs, as they seek the next stage in their growth: • Which sectors are seeing the fastest growth among LBBs? • What age do most get acquired or sell up? • When do most LBBs seek external investment? • Which technologies are going to be most disruptive over the next 5-10 years?
