Cloudreach makes another acquisition

cloudreachCloudreach has acquired Emerging Technology Advisors (ETA), a Virginia-based firm with technologists specialising in areas including Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and serverless computing. ETA’s small team of top-flight technologists provides consulting and implementation services that help enterprises take advantage of new technologies as they migrate to the cloud. Existing clients include Netflix, Time Warner Cable and PwC.

There is clearly an overlap in culture between Cloudreach and ETA and a shared ambition to move many more enterprises into the cloud via the application of new and emerging technology. The acquisition of course follows the very recent move by Cloudreach to buy Cloudamize, another good fit. eta

For both enterprise clients and their suppliers, current challenges lay around making a successful move to cloud without causing an almighty fluff-up that either kills the intended objective or brings the business to its knees. But there is also the challenge of trying to migrate into the cloud at scale. Sure, it is fairly easy and cheap to start using cloud technologies for small (and non-risky) projects, but things can very soon become much more challenging.

Cloudreach, backed by PE firm Blackstone, is on a mission to unlock that scale challenge. It’s going to need more sales and techie people to help enable that (it aims to hire over 200 news employees over the next year taking total headcount to 500+), but it will also need to keep adding to its technology ‘arsenal’ allowing the tech to ‘take the strain’ and avoiding the need for a massive army of expensive technologists. More acquisitions are surely on the cards with Blackstone no doubt deeply tapped into the flow of possible start-up targets.
